Next month, Google to Launch AI-Powered Search Tools to Compete with Microsoft and OpenAI
Google is developing AI-powered search tools under the project Magi to compete with ChatGPT and Bing. The tools will be released next month.
Google is reportedly set to launch new AI-powered search tools next month, with even more features to follow in the fall. The new tools are expected to be released initially in the United States to a maximum of one million users under the codename "Magi". While it's not yet clear what specific features the tools will offer, they are expected to build on the conversational promise of Google's experimental chatbot, Bard.
These new tools come as Google faces competition from other AI-powered search engines, such as Microsoft's Bing chatbot and OpenAI's ChatGPT. Some experts believe that chatbots could one day replace traditional search engines like Google, despite their limitations.
According to reports, Google's position is so threatened that Samsung is considering replacing Google with Bing as the default search engine on its mobile devices. This deal is worth an estimated $3 billion in annual revenue to Google, although it's unclear how seriously Samsung is considering the switch.
In addition to the new features being developed under Project Magi, Google is also planning a more radical overhaul of its search engine. However, there's no clear timeline for when this new technology will be released.
Finally, Google is also said to be working on a range of other AI tools, including an AI image generator called GIFI, a language learning system called Tivoli Tutor, and a feature called Searchalong, which would integrate a chatbot into Google's Chrome browser to answer questions related to the current web page. This is similar to Microsoft's Bing AI sidebar for its Edge browser.
